I have been a counsellor for 30 years. My training is psychodynamic, but my practice is integrative, drawing upon other concepts and models as required. I am experienced in working with adults of all ages, with all kinds of problems, within primary care settings, in staff counselling and private practice. My main specialism is working with 18–25-year-olds within the university context, where I’ve always seen my role as supporting the developmental process of psychological transition from adolescence to adulthood.
My style is relaxed and conversational and I am committed to ensuring we spend time talking about what a client hopes to achieve by the end of our work. I believe it’s important to be intentional in what we are doing so we can make the best use of our time, aware that therapy is costly. For this reason, I tend not to offer open ended therapy but prefer to agree a fixed contract and review as we go.
Before training as a counsellor, I worked many years with LGB youth and in the HIV/AIDS field.
